The Christmas pickle

AeroGarden - In-Home Garden System - $125 in CouponsThe Garden Guy’s favorite holiday tradition is the Christmas pickle how the story goes is you purchase a pickle ornament and when you get ready to put the gifts under the tree when everyone is asleep you hide the Christmas pickle in the tree then when Christmas morning comes around and you are finished opening gifts you ask all the kids and or adults to go search for the Christmas pickle in the tree then whoever finds the Christmas pickle first wins you could congratulate the winner by saying good job or spice it up a bit by giving the winner a extra gift the choice is yours. Hope you have a safe and fun Merry Christmas from our family to your family

Christmas events

Replacing your lawn? Use Plants Express for plants in California! Lowest prices delivered direct to I got a couple fun events to do on or before Christmas event number one is be spreading Christmas cheer by doing some caroling and my favorite thing we do for our neighbors is called  you’ve been socked if you never heard of it I’m going to tell you print out a you’ve been socked poem online just simply google it then purchase a stocking and fill stuff like maybe a candle or if the neighbor has kids or a dog and maybe purchase something for them make sure to be secret don’t put your name on the paper because the neighbor you hanged the stocking on their door knob is supposed to do the same to another neighbor of his or her choosing.

Helping the wild birds in the winter

Love watching the birds but don’t know how to help the wild birds in the winter well I am going to help you out the first thing is to purchase suet or seed without the shell the reason why is that they need to save their energy to fly and keep warm if your bird seed has a shell that means the birds have to waste their energy on opening the shell if you want you can use both shell or non shell seed and then purchase a bird feed suet feeder at your local feed store that sells wild bird feed the bird feed I recommend is sunflower chips with no shell and wild bird feed mix with a little bit of everything and to help the birds with getting more energy is by purchasing a fruit and nut feed mix and if you want you can purchase unsalted peanuts shelled or unshelled for the blue jays if you like seeing them I would recommend feeding blue jays away from the main feeders where the smaller birds eat because the blue jays are a little more aggressive. The cardinals can eat with the smaller birds. A Tip is that cardinals and blue jays never get along so make sure to feed the cardinals with the smaller birds the cardinals favorite seed to feed on is black oil sunflower seeds if you would like to save money on seed I would recommend placing the seed in tube feeders because the sparrows and the smaller birds will clean your seed tray and or platform by the end of the day if you put the seed in tube feeder the seed will last a lot longer. To help the birds in the winter you can hang a bird house with hay and or dry grass to help the birds stay warm and survive the harsh winter weather.

How to get in the Christmas spirit

So it is officially the month of December which is the month of spending time together with you’re loved one on or near Christmas But I wanna talk about getting in the Christmas spirit outdoors you don’t have to stop decorating outside in the winter months when it is cold outside if you want you can put a wreath on your door if you don’t like being outside in the cold when decorating for Christmas you could go inside and getting you’re favorite tree up for Christmas if you’re like me you love a real Christmas tree but hate wasting money on a cut down tree or go out and hunt for a pine tree to cut down but hate the hassle of going back outside and carrying it in the cold to the curb but I will make it easier for you by saving you time and money by purchasing one at a nursery near you or online your choice by purchasing a dwarf variety Christmas tree that grows up to 4ft to 10ft tall full grown with roots and all and get potting mix you may have left over from the spring and put the live pine tree in and have for nice scenery in the spring and year around and most importantly for Christmas and decorating the pine tree in December then removing after Christmas and still have a nice spring feel to your home think of it like spring/summer is in your home so I hope I helped you make more future Christmas easier and less hassle and saving you money in the long run.

Three Easy plants to grow in the winter.

So if you are like me you like your plants but if you live in a climate where you get snow and freezing temperatures you are probably asking yourself how and what plants can I grow inside. Well today the Garden guy has three plants that you can grow indoors while it is freezing outside plant #1 is tomato’s your probably asking yourself how is that possible tomato’s have to grow outside technically tomato’s can be an outdoor and indoor plant just when you plant inside get yourself a good size pot to put garden soil in and take your seeds from any tomato it could be a tomato you grew or you bought at the store evenly spread the seeds into the soil and make sure to cover the seeds completely make sure the plant gets about 6 hours of sunlight and water the plant when the soil feels dry. Plant #2 my personal favorite is strawberry plants there is two ways to do this you can take a already strawberry plant you already have preferably one of the runners from your strawberry plant you may already have make sure to get a runner with baby roots or the other way is strawberry seeds and put in the pot filled with garden soil but just a heads up the seed method takes a little longer grow the plant and get produce off of the plant make sure to keep the soil moist and spongey. Plant # 3 is cat grass for the cat lovers cat grass helps with cat digestion for example if the cat has a hair ball and is having trouble throwing it up. Offer cat grass to them to help them. You can buy the cat grass kit online at or at your local department store in the pet section sometimes they only sell seeds or the kits it depends if they have in stock or not. So I hope The Garden Guy helped you enjoy your plants and gardening by gardening inside in the winter months happy planting ❤️The Garden Guy🌱

How to start a compost pile

Today The Garden Guy will help you start a compost pile or bin if you want to save money on buying gardening soil but never wanted to to pay the price for a bag of soil im here to help to start composting you need to start with a even on brown material and green material let me explain what a brown material is a brown material is dead leaves, sticks, anything plants that are brown and not living is considered a brown material. Now a green material is fresh weeds picked in or around the garden or flower beds and fruit and vegetable scraps, egg shells make sure you don’t use any meat products because they smell and are not good in the garden. To make sure the compost turns into dirt is make sure you and water to it water lightly killer a wet sponge if you water it to much and it dripping wet it will stink like a rotten smell and will be no good I will have to restart all over. When you lightly water the compost pile make sure you take a garden shovel and turn the pile because that we let air into the pile which will help the pile beak down and turn into dirt faster. FUN FACT: A Compost Pile is called Black Gold because it is the richest soil for you plants and gives the plants nutritions to help them grow. Hope this help you grow your own black gold if you have any further questions comment on this post and The Garden Guy will get back to you ASAP.

Are You’re Plants Talking To you??

Are your plants talking to you? Not by saying hi or hello. I mean do they Wilt or drop there leaves or turning brown. Or if you don’t know I’m here to help you listen to them. Yes it is true plants talk to you by giving you signs of stress like brown tips for example. If your plants have brown tips it means they are getting to much sun or if that is not the problem it could be that they are thristy. Easy way to see if they need water is to put your index finger in the soil about a inch down if it feels like dry sand it would be time to water them and you can use a spray bottle on the mist setting and mist the leaves make sure to spray in the day time when the sun is out because if you spray the leaves in the late evening it will not have enough time to evaporate the extra water on the leaves and the moisture on the plant will eventually rot the leaves on the plant and will die. So next time you look at your plants and see if they are talking to you. Have a fun listening to you plants they will thank you in the long run. Have a safe Halloween 🎃. Lowest Prices! We have hundreds of drought tolerant selections. Delivered direct to your home. ❤️The Garden Guy🌱

Have growing plants inside

Today the Garden Guy will help you have some fun for the people that can only grow your crops only in the spring/summer months. Let’s start off with your plants outdoors like your smaller plants like your flowers if you have any flowers with bulbs go look in the flower bed and dig them up before the first frost then bring the flower bulbs inside and get your a pot if you don’t have one you can make one easily get yourself a empty milk jug wash it out and get yourself some dirt it could be from outside or your own potting soil your choice the you can put the soil in the pot and if you have more than one flower bulb like three for example you can put the bulbs in just leave about three inches of space between the bulbs when planting them in the pot of dirt put the flower bulbs in dirt about 3 inches to cover the bulb of dirt then just sit the pot by a sunny location with no drafts then water about once or twice a week or when the soil starts to get dry wait until it sprouts just remember to turn the pot once in a while because the plant will grow towards the sunlight and the plant will start looking funny. So I hope I helped you the plant lover with this helpful tip. 🌱The Garden Guy❤️

How to grow plants indoors

The cold weather is going be coming soon so if you want to grow free plants then I got a tip for you and no these plants are not sold in stores anywhere. This are outdoors the first free plant is tomatoes from your tomatoes you get from your garden or the tomatoes you bought at the produce section of the store save the seeds of the tomatoes and let dry by a sunny window for about a week then get a pot full of dirt and plant the seeds and water and sit your plant in a non drafty window And near a sunny window or buy a grow light near you or online. The second plant is a avocado pit cut the avocado in half just be carful not the cut the pit in the middle of the avocado then wash the avocado pit off make sure no green avocado stuff is left on the avocado pit do not cut the skin around the avocado pit off leave it on then take a glass of water and three toothpicks and put the toothpicks in the avocado pit MAKE SURE the avocado pit is pointy side up and the bottom is down the bottom side of the avocado pit goes in the water just don’t put the toothpicks all the way though the avocado pit and balance the avocado pit with toothpicks in the glass of water make sure the avocado pit with toothpicks is halfway covered with water and make sure to refill the glass when needed and put avocado pit in a sunny window with no drafts then the avocado pit with eventually start to split in half in the water that is normal the the roots will start to grow in water leave the pit in water until the sprout comes from the top then transfer the avocado pit with sprouts in pot with potting soil make sure not to disturb the roots while transplanting to soil then keep watering til it is damp and not to over water.

Have some fun in October

It is officially October 1st that means is time to harvest you pumpkins and corn from the field and get ready to decorate for the Halloween and fall season a good thing about pumpkins is that when you harvest them or you buy one at the local department store you can have them to decorate or near Halloween you can carve them just a heads up don’t carve them to early or they will rot if you want to carve the pumpkin before Halloween just fill a spray bottle with water and a small amount of bleach and spray the carved areas of the pumpkin with the bleach solution in the spray bottle then let the carved pumpkin air dry. Then take your pumpkin seeds that you have from carving the pumpkin and if you want a delicious snack you can remove the pumpkin orange guts the best you can from the seeds and take them to the sink with a strainer and put the seeds in the strainer and rinse them with warm water trying to remove the extra pumpkin guts from the seeds then take the rinsed off seeds put them in a bowl and add melted butter and a pinch of garlic salt mix it then you can put them in the oven on 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or the air fryer on 350 for 15 minutes then check on them til they turn a golden brown now remove to seeds and enjoy. Hope you have fun with this little project to do yourself or with the little ones feel free to share this article. 🌱The Garden Guy❤️

How to prepare for fall

Well folks today is September 23rd 2019 which means today to the start of the fall equinox that means it’s time to put your spring and summer things away and bring out the fall decorations and start preparing your garden plants for winter Tip #1 on the first week of October 2019 is the first frost date which means any tropical like plants you brought from inside the house and moved outdoors in the early to late spring this year it is time to bring them in my tip to you if you want to help your plants in the house on winter cold months invest in a little greenhouse that is if you have to space or if  you don’t have the space invest in a little grow light CLICK THE LINK TO BUY a grow light helps with the natural  daylight you lose in the spring/summer months just remember with a grow light only use the grow light for 6 hours a day try to keep it on a schedule for example you would turn on the light at 10am and turn the light off at 4pm every day. If you already have a grow light congratulations if not it’s ok you don’t have to invest in one if you don’t to you can put your house plants near a window with the most light throughout the day just make sure there is no cold drafts in the window. If you have any more questions for me leave me a comment with your concerns or questions about any of your plants inside or outside. Hope you have a good one gardeners and outdoor fans. ❤️TheGardenGuy🌱

Cherish The Summer Days

As the Fall season is almost here take some extra time to sit or walk outdoors for maybe a hour or two after work to enjoy the last days of 2019 summer days because before you know it all the green leaves off the tres will turn yellow to brown and into a bald tree until the spring and summer of 2020 no matter how old or young you are take a hour of your day enjoying something you like to do as a hobbie like fishing for example like it is your last. Just remember memories last a lifetime and pictures keep the memories you may or may not have forgiven so have a fantastic years ahead of you- ❤️TheGardenGuy🌱

A bandit at work

Here’s a quick tip for you guys This picture shown below is a from a bandit and that bandit is a skunk digging a hole. As you may or may not know I love bird watching in my yard but it has a advantages and disadvantages which is the birds drop some of the seed on the ground and it attracts the wild animals. So my tip to you is do not fill your platform feeder to the top only fill it half way no waste or mess to pick up. Happy Birdwatching-❤️TheGardenGuy🌱

This plant is gigantic

In the Small Town of Kittanning Pennsylvania is the biggest tree around the area the size is about as tall as a 7 story building and the picture below shows how wide it is by my hand. It’s been here for about 100 years and it still has green leaves every spring. And still grows and more beautiful and wonderful to see in person so if you live in the area of Armstrong county surrounding areas come down and see it for yourself you won’t regret it don’t forget to get pictures for yourself. ❤️TheGardenGuy🌱

The Bush That gives beauty

The buffer fly bush gets its name from attracting all kinds of butterflies big and small. It even attracts the hummingbirds the butterfly bush comes in so many colors light blue, red, Purple, and so on the have different sizes for different flower beds. I have the dwarf variety it only gets about 5ft tall and 5ft wide. But the bigger ones can get 10ft tall and 5ft wide. The good thing about this bush is that they are (pre-annuals) means that the will die in the winter and come back year after year. Just make sure you mulch it just to be on the safe side. And they do not cost a lot I got mine at my local plant nursery for $12. Also when next spring rolls around and you don’t see buds when all your other plants are budding that’s normal the bush don’t bud and bloom til around mid-June and July. IF YOU HAVE A COMMENT ABOUT THIS PLANT THAT YOU OWN OR THINKING ABOUT OWNING ONE COMMENT BELOW AND I WILL RESPOND ASAP - ❤️TheGardenGuy🌱

Not a warm welcome

We’ll as the days get cooler and and days don’t get scorching hot and stay cool and breezy throughout the days that’s a sign that fall is unfortunately around the corner that means that the trees will turn yellow and drop off. And the flowers and brushes will not produce buds til next year. TIP#1 you don’t have to cover your bushes or plants if you mulch them they will be fine. TIP #2 if you have any fruit like (strawberry plants) for example and they are mulched for extra protection. In late September add some hay or grass like material to protect them. TIP #3 any flower beds with flowers on them cut the flowers off and use them inside a vase with water to make them look nice and to get the flower bed ready for spring 2020 before the frost cause that will kill your flowers if you don’t do it before the frost. ALSO IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS COMMENT BELOW. ❤️Happy Preparation❤️ -The Garden Guy
